Pre-Apprentice[]

The daughter of wealthy French-German businessman Bernard Burger and English mother Sally, Lucinda was born on January 5th 1968 and spent the early part of her life in Singapore, travelling much as a child. She was born as Lucinda Burger, but her original parents divorced when she was young. Her mother then married Ian Laird, whose surname she then adopted.

The new couple then brought their daughter back to the UK, where she attended various private schools. Lucinda has described her childhood as "strange" and has been reluctant to openly discuss it - although she has said that she was not very close to her mother or stepfather, and closer to her grandmother, who died of motor neurone disease shortly after she completed her degree.

After completing a degree in Neuroscience and Psychology (1998) Lucinda joined Ernst & Young on their graduate program specializing in Risk Management. Clients included the Bass Hotel chain, Time Warner DVD and Music and the Financial Services Authority (FSA). In 2000 she joined Merrill Lynch Private Investment Bank as a senior analyst responsible for the full lifecycle, design and implementation of a fully integrated front to back office IT system. Upon project completion she joined Credit Suisse Private Bank as deputy project manager. In 2002 Lucinda embarked on a two year sabbatical to Australia, Mexico and America.

Upon returning to the UK in 2004 Lucinda came to work and settle in Edinburgh. By this time, she had decided it was "better off not to have any contact with my family", and adopted her grandmother's surname, Ledgerwood. During filming both her mother and stepfather refused to talk about her. Lucinda set up her own business consultancy company (Lucinda Ledgerwood Ltd) to focus on business strategy, development and project management where she was employed by the UK’s largest Life Assurance and Pensions provider, among other clients, as a contractor. She is known as "Cindy" to her friends, but the production crew used her full name Lucinda to avoid confusion with fellow contestant Lindi Mngaza. Lucinda is now an extremely successful businesswoman and enjoyed her experience on 'The Apprentice'.

The Apprentice[]

"I don't believe you need to be a bitch in business to succeed."
——Lucinda Ledgerwood, Week Five.
