Dr. Asif Munaf was a candidate on Series 18 of the UK version of The Apprentice. [1]
Munaf had appeared on Dragon's Den prior to coming on the show, however failed to attract investment. Munaf was edited out of You're Fired after anti-Semitic social media posts he had made came to light.
Profile[]
“Beauty, brains, body and business” is how Asif proudly describes himself on his CV. A doctor with a business plan focused on healthy vitamins and supplements, Asif may need more than the four Bs to win Lord Sugar’s investment.[2]
What is your biggest business success to date?
Launching a business whilst working 12-hour shifts as a doctor during Covid.
What is your biggest business fail?
Dragons’ Den, D.A.T.E Smoothie. Was far too early but I learnt some great business insights from the Dragons.
Tell us something about you that we don’t know?
I am the eldest of six kids and have a brother at primary school who is 22 years my junior!
Why do you deserve Lord Sugar’s investment?
With my range of vitamins and supplements, I would make sure he is fit, sharp and firing for at least another 20 series!
Apprentice[]
Asif's time on the show was marked by last-ditch moves and little progress. Episode 1 saw him saved, however he did attract attention due to celebrating before Tim had finished announcing the results, thinking the men's team had won, however they had actually made a loss.
Episode 2 saw Asif brought into the boardroom, having been considered to have done little in the process. Facing a potential firing, Asif agreed to PM the next task.
However, in this task Asif was considered to have given incomplete and unclear instructions to his team members, not living up to what Lord Sugar had wanted to see from their deal in the boardroom. Asif's suggestion that the team's video game should be taken seriously instead of being more abstract and surreal was confirmed by industry experts judging the teams to have been what lost the team a potential task-winning £100,000. Eyebrows were also raised by his decision to bring Onyeka and Sam back into the boardroom, despite the latter having been perceived to have done well in the task. After attempting to change to Amina, Lord Sugar brought all four into the boardroom, though the final decision was largely a foregone conclusion.

Post-Apprentice[]
Asif's firing was announced by the press a few hours before the episode was to go out, as he had been found to have made anti-Semitic and other controversial social media posts between filming and transmission. He was edited out of the week's You're Fired, becoming the first contestant to have been effectively edited out of the spin-off show. The BBC defended their decision not to retroactively start the series from Episode 4, as previously fired candidates Oliver and Paul B would have not appeared due to no fault of their own.
